Here are the breakdown of the picks that were made:
1. Ledell Eackles from Washington
Ledell is a good young pick for the Raptors. He is inked to a 3 year deal which will give him a good amount of time to develop. While he wasn't the best team available, he is one of the best picks for a brand new team with no players so far.
2. Calvin Natt from Indy
Great player, great pick. He should be the number 1 option on this team for atleast this year. He is a bit old, but he should be the veteran leader on the floor and in the locker room. Also allows great flexibility with his expiring contract. He should be a good mentor for young eackles.
3. Brooke Steppe from NY
Very similar player to Ledell, only a bit worse on Defense, and a better build. Reasons for drafting Steppe are the same as drafting Eackles.
4. Michael Ansley from Orlando
Another young player with a very small contract. If he dosent develop he has a small contract that could be easily cut. Hopefully he will be able to turn out well since he is just 22.
5. Nate Johnston from Portland
Another pick that adds to the Toronto youth movement. Like most of the picks he was drafted solely based on age, not on skills. While he is a decent defender, there were better players, but they were older and hate worser contracts. Hes a bit on the small side for a C but hes still young and could change positions.
6. Sidney Lowe from Minnesota
Not great skill wise, and a bit old but the contract is ideal. He could start for the Raptors, and then they can just let him go, or resign for a very small price. Ideal size for a PG also.
7. Kevin Edwards from Seattle
Really good undersized player. Young, good potential and pretty decent skills for a pick so late in the expansion. I would think about moving him to PG and see if he can play the 1 any better than the 2.
8-12. - forfeit-
Possibly the best move in the draft. This allows them to sign FA at very small contracts that can leave them far under the cap. Right now they are 29 million under which will help them in the offseason and also allow them to take on big contracts from other teams. I think this was a great move by the raptors.
Overall this draft went smoothly for the raptors. They got a number one option out of natt and are way under the cap. They should have an easy time rebuilding next offseason.
