Nuggets ship Zydrunas Ilgauskas off to Orlando.
Denver, CO -- (AP)
After yet another season of missing the playoffs and watching the playoffs from the sidelines, Nuggets big man Zydrunas Ilgauskas made it very clear to Denver management that he wished to be traded to a playoff contending team. So after much speculation and rumours where he might be dealt to, the Nuggets shipped off the disgruntled center to Orlando in exchange for Gilbert Arenas and Rich King.
During his 6 seasons in Denver, the Nuggets center developed his game and became one of the better all around centers in the ABCA. He also became the lone bright spot for a dismal Denver franchise, and only dreamed of making the playoffs during his stay. Day after day, season after season, the games lost and hardships took it's toll on Ilgauskas, untill one day he finally had enough and requested to be traded.
After spending 6 seasons in Denver, the 11 year veteran joins his 5th team.
"I'm sorry it came to the point where he no longer wanted to be a part of this franchise. Unfortunately, we have to move on and that's what we're going to do. He was a solid player his entire tenure here, and hopefully he gets his shot at a ring with Orlando. They're getting a solid player, and we're definitely sad to see him leave, but at the same time we're looking forward to the change." commented GM dasm0kesh0w2474.
Gilbert Arenas answers questions at a press conference earlier today.
The key piece to the deal for Denver was 22 year old guard Gilbert Arenas. The former 1st overall pick joins his 3rd team in 3 seasons, and hasn't lived up to the expectations when he was selected #1 by Cleveland. "I'm not worried by what the critics have to say. I'm just going to do my thing and try to become a better player to help my team win. It's definitely not easy being dealt 3 times in 3 seasons, but hopefully my stay here will be an extended one. I'm just looking forward to getting on the court." commented Arenas.
Denver also acquired 35 year old center Rich King. Entering his 14th ABCA season, the veteran is expected to suit up for Denver for the remainder of this season. And while he's not expected to play a vital role by any means, Denver management is hoping the veteran will share his knowledge with the younger players.
"He'll definitely be a positive influence on our club. He's been through a lot in his career. Hopefully some of our younger players will benefit from his wisdom." commented GM dasm0kesh0w2474.
