University of Utah center Andrew Bogut, shown below, has forgone his final two years of eligibility and declared himself eligible for the Draft at seasons end. Although he has not hired an agent Bogut figures to be a top 3 pick making his jump to the league an easy one to make.
"I have no regrets and full-speed ahead," the 7-footer from Australia said at his press confernce.
"My decision has always been about what is best for my basketball career," he said.
A star at the university of Utah, Bogut could have gone pro right away in Europe or signed with another school because his commitment to Utah expired during the delay, but kept his word and arrived in Salt Lake City in 2003. After getting off to a slow start his career has blossomed as he leads Utah in scoring and rebounding. A very promissing prospect Bogut is confident he can succeed at the next level.
College: Utah
Class: Sophomore
Height: 7-0
Weight: 240 lbs.
Hometown: Melbourne, Australia
High School: Lake Ginninderra
Accolades: 2003-2004 Mountain West Freshman of the Year, Freshman All-American Team. Consensus National Player of the Year in 2004-05. Winner of the Wooden, Naismith, Associated Press, USBWA, NABC, Basketball Times, ESPN.com and Sports Illustrated Player of the Year Awards.
Scouting Report:
Game has improved dramatically since beginning of his college basketball career, he has great skills for a big man. Bogut can knock down the medium range jump shot and is a phenomenal interior passer. Bogut quite possibly the top player of his class. Has an pro-ready game which makes it difficult to double team him. Does have major questions about lack of athleticism which could hurt him at next level.
Strengths: A Solid mid-range game, can play facing and with his back to basket. Has a devastating drop-step and can shoot jump-hook with either hand. Has Kevin McHale-esque footwork on the block and very sharp mechanics on his jumper. A tremendous interior passer. He sees the court well, and catches everything that comes his way. Has a great competitive, and a huge desire to get better and improve his game.
Weaknesses: Lack of Athleticism with lackluster lateral foot speed. Is not an explosive leaper. Some also say he needs the right system to be effective in the pro game.
Projected Draft Range: Top 2 Picks
NBA Comparision: Vlade Divac
Projected Ratings: C+ C C+ B B A
