The Memphis Grizzlies used to be a playoff caliber team, and even have two ABCA championship titles to their name. However, the past two seasons the Grizzlies have been just abysmal. The Memphis fans are very understanding that sometimes you need to rebuild, but some are starting to ask just how long does General Manager/Owner Brajense plan to continue the rebuilding process.
The key behind making a playoff caliber team is by acquiring a franchise player and surrounding him with talent. Many believe that with Brandon Roy and Josh Howard, some surrounding minor pieces, two top ten first round picks, and over 10 million in cap space, the Memphis Grizzlies may be ready for a playoff run next season. When asked if he believes his team is ready for a run, GM Brajense said that he’s going to just keep putting pieces together on his team and that the citizens of Memphis will not have to wait much longer for their return to glory.
This year’s draft is a very deep draft with the top prospect being large man-child Dwight Howard. The Grizzlies own the 6th and 7th picks. GM Brajense had this to say about who his team is looking at, “Well you know we are very fortunate to have two early firsts in a deep draft such as this, but you know we got one of those picks from being one of the worst teams in the ABCA last year. We however do have the luxury of having a lot of flexible players that can play several positions. This gives us the ability to draft what we feel is the best player available at our picks. I know a lot of people say we need a big, but I feel like we are very pleased with the progress Hilton Armstrong made, and the contributions Dan Gadzuric made. We will also have Al Harrington and David West back. Like I said we have a very flexible ball club and that is going to help us in acquiring the best players that we can get this off-season. It should be an off-season filled with a lot of action and excitement.”
