This season, the Portland Trailblazers boast what looks to be the greatest frontcourt this team has had since the days of Big Stanley Roberts and Ed Horton. Averaging 44 points, 28.4 boards, and most impressively 8.2 blocks per game so far this season, this is a trio to contend with. Let’s take a look at these guys:
Center - Eddy Curry
Eddy has been holding down the middle for the Blazers ever since he was drafted in 2003. When he first arrived he looked to be the face of the franchise, and flourished in that role for 2 years, but has since taken the back seat to superstar Carmelo Anthony. At first this was a hard transition for the big man, and his numbers made a noticeable drop. But recently the team administration realized just how valuable he is to the team, and they have brought him once again into the forefront of their offensive scheme, and it has paid off. Eddy has taken that extra pressure and turned it into 19.9 points per game so far this season, a career high. He’s also picked it up defensively with 1.4 steals and 3.6 blocks a game. Look for him to keep up this intensity and have a huge impact for the team this year
Power Forward - Marcus Camby
A relatively new face to the Blazers, Camby was acquired under some controversy last season in a trade that shipped future Hall of Famer Jason Kidd to New York, but Marcus has found renewed energy this season and is earning his keep as a Trailblazer. He’s putting up great numbers so far, getting a double-double in points and rebounds and showing why he’s such a defensive threat with his 2.9 blocks per game. Camby doesn’t look to be a go-to scorer for the team, but he does all the little things in a game and that’s why he’s so valuable to this team
Small Forward - Darius Miles
Another career Trailblazer, Miles has proven himself to be a defensive force in this league. Having been voted to the All-Defensive team for 3 years straight now, the Blazers are looking for him to continue his success as a lockdown defender. So far he’s done well, getting 1.1 steals and 1.7 blocks in the games played so far. With his history we’re sure these numbers will go up, and Miles will definitely be an impact player for this team
