New York, NY - After an almost incomprehensible hiatus from the league, Hall of Fame GM John Plossl returned to the front office of the New York Knicks today. Plossl, who won a title while running Portland soon after the league started, then created a dynasty in Memphis, was GM and head coach of the Knicks for a brief period before leaving the league for a much needed break. Given the chance to once again make his mark on the league, Plossl said he couldn't pass up the opportunity.
"When I left this league all those seasons ago, I honestly thought I was gone for good," stated Plossl. "I did everything I thought I needed to as a GM. I won a title in Portland, then set up Memphis to win two more after that. While I enjoyed my time in NY, I never really had the heart to make another run at that. But when the NY front office called me up to see if I was interested in taking the team over again, I couldn't turn down that kind of request. I felt like I left the team in a bit of a lurch and never delivered on the promises I made to the fans here. This time, I plan on bringing home that title that was expected over a half dozen seasons ago."
While Knicks fans might be relieved that the team is being headed by Plossl again, the Knicks players seemed less pleased with the news. The new GM is known for cleaning house when taking over a team, removing most if not all former players during his patented team rebuilds. This should mean huge changes for a talented NY lineup that. One current Knicks player who wished to remain anonymous even went so far as to imply that he expected everyone from last season's team to be gone by the beginning of preseason. When asked to comment, Plossl seemed unwilling to confirm or deny said rumors.
"I'm not going to lie to you," Plossl said. "In the past, I've found a lot of success building franchises from the ground up. That being said, this team has a lot of veteran talent. Nenad, Tayshaun, Michael...these are guys you want to build a team around. I'll be meeting with some of the guys in the next couple days, and we'll see how things go. All I can promise you is that you are going to see something special in NY this year."
