Today marked the end of the training camp for this years Golden State Warriors camp and to say that this years team is going to be exciting is filled with mixed emotions all the same. Some might say that a team led by Joe Johnson can't hack it in the western conference, but Joe Johnson isn't by himself he has last years captain Ronnie Brewer, along with the returning veteran in Ben Wallace anchoring the low post with his defensive presence.
Many anxious onlookers were at the last practice snapping photos and doing interviews trying to get the feel for this years squad. Many think it is their deepest team, while others are skeptical of what might be just something that won't live up to the hype once again. Once the players were seen heading towards the showers over in the corner we saw their general manager John Rockwell sitting there writing some notes on a clipboard not at first noticing that he was being watched by the cameras. He then lifts his head up and scratches his chin hiding the clipboard and turns his attention towards the cameras awaiting for the barrage of questions they might have for him but he manages a smile known the less.
Stephen A Smith: Hello this is Stephen A. Smith from ESPN, and I was curious what made you make the deals you did this off season especially in the draft?
John Rockwell: Well I know there were many who thought the deal was sort of bad, but if you look at it from our end we had a contract that was huge in Z and we had to admit his skills still not terrible by any means, and yet at the same token weren't like they were a few years back. So when we saw an opportunity to get a player who with the skills of Joe Johnson and the 11th pick in the same draft I was thinking this was good for our team. Because to be quite honest we like Giricek but he isn't getting any younger so we saw a place to upgrade our teams chances.
FOX Sports Bay Area: Joe Roberts of the Fox Sports Bay Area. Our listeners are wondering if you have more trades in the work and if so where might you be looking to improve this team?
John Rockwell: Well actually yes we do have some more talks in the works as we speak. We do have a few needs that need to be addressed sooner rather than later. First is the point guard position as we thought that Delonte might have helped us, but the results that occurred from the preseason didn't show that much to the major disappoint of all involved. I have been in talks with Raptors and a few other teams to see what we can do to make this work out the best for both as we obviously are tired of sitting back and watching the playoffs from the comfort of our homes, we want to be a part of the playoffs and be a team which can make a splash.
NBA.com Reporter: What do you think as your team stands right now would do this season? Are you thinking playoffs, lotto or where?
John Rockwell: Obviously as I stated before we want to make playoffs, but this team I can see making a push towards that goal, but I think we need an extra push and I think we will indeed get just that sooner rather than later. Keep your eyes and ears open as I think we might have something done later today or possibly tomorrow. Anything to improve this teams chances will definitely be of the highest priority. I can't believe anything should or would be acceptable to the fans who pay for the season tickets and the fans in general.
Then his cell phone begins to ring as he pulls it up to see who is calling and he then begins to flip it open but pauses.
John Rockwell: Well I'm sorry everyone I have to take this call now so talk to you more later.
Walking off a good distance he begins speaking to someone very intensely.
