After mass histaria in the New York media, the Knicks have brought in a GM to run the franchise. After many good seasons in the ABCA (except for this last season) David Thompson will take over the franchise and hope to bring them to a Retro ABCA championship. He took a very good Blazer team to the Western Conference finals in the ABCA and expects similar results here.
"I'm very happy about this team." We've got a cornerstone center to build around in Patrick Ewing, whom although isn't very well liked fully expects to own all the other centers in the league saying this "I will crush you" in what might be the best one liner since Rocky 4. Pat also has a very capable backup in Eddie Wilkins who should fill in fine for the bigman.
Many expectations are falling on the broad shoulders of young? PF Charles Oakley. Charles is very happy about Thompson's offensive strategy of using him and Patrick to pound away at defenses.
Gerald Wilkens will be looked at to be their 3rd man so to speak with great inside/outside ability he could flurish playing with Pat and Charles. The team is looking for him to be a good part of the offense this coming season.
At the point battling out still are Mark Jackson and Maurice Cheeks. Jackson holds the early edge based on the fact that he is all about dishing the ball and playing defense. Something Mr. Thompson loves from a PG. There should be no reason that Mark isn't a top 10 PG this season in assists to turnovers.
In division the Knicks biggest challenges will be the up and coming Miami Heat, and the aging Boston Celtics. They're very happy with the situation and division figuring to challenge fairly easily to win the division.
