ORLANDO (AP)---This afternoon, the Orlando Magic sent Reggie Theus and Sidney Green to the Houston Rockets for John Lucas and Lewis Lloyd in the first ever Retro ABCA Trade.
"I am excited to play for a contender" said Reggie Theus on his way to the airport so he could report for the required Rocket's team physical. "It's good to know I have a chance to play in the post-season this year. I do with the best of luck to [the Orlando Magic]."
"We feel like we get a quality Guard out of this deal," added Magic Owner John Scott. "Don't be surprised though if our dealing days are not quite finished, we have a lot of work ahead of us to make this ship float, and adding a player like Lucas helps, but just isn't enough to compete in a very difficult Atlantic Division."
The Magic will need to lock in a center who can defend the Knick's prized center, Patrick Ewing. Not to mention somehow play to the level of the covetted Celtics squad. This could be a very tough year for the Magic, but not all too suprising seeing as they are only in their 2nd year of existance.
"I know I am going to a team that is rebuilding, but I was told we were already seeking more front court depth and if nothing could be done by the time the season started I would likely be on a plane to another team." said John Lucas, who was the prize player in this trade for the Orlando Magic.
Rumored teams to land Lucas, if the need arises, are the Indiana Pacers, who have been seeking a PG and possibly a number of other Western Conference squads.
It's no secret that the Magic would like to keep a talented player such as Lucas in a division where he can beat them. It's much more wise to ship him far, far away.
