UTAH -- This season he has established himself as one of the league's best, if not THE best. He has captured 17 player of the game awards, 2 player of the week awards and 1 player of the month awards in 35 games. He has led the league in scoring the entire season, and has consistently been int he top 10 in rebounds, minutes, field goal and freethrow attempts, field goal percentage, and has also visited the steals board. He has led his team to #1 in the league with a .829 win rate, and a perfect home record. He has 20 double doubles in only 35 games, and has passed the 40-point mark is 5 games, including 44 points twice. Of course, I am talking about none other than the great Karl Malone.
The 26 year old, 6'9", 250 pound forward from Louisiana Tech currently has an average stat line of 29-10-4-2-1. He is arguably the best player in the league right now, on the best team in the league.
"He's a great guy to play with," says teammate John Stockton. "I just pass him the ball and he puts it in. Makes my assist numbers much better."
How true it is. Malone ranks second in the league with a 53.5% field goal percentage. He is the reason for the Jazz's success. He is the reason the Jazz are on pace for a 68 win season. He has been extremely close to triple doubles on a few occasions, but he has never gotten one. He has scored a career high of 44 points twice so far, once against the Spurs, and another against the Hawks. I could go on and on about his numerous achievements, his numerous appearances on leaderboards, and the numerous times he has dominated opponents. But I won't, because there are just too many.
Malone is an early candidate for the MVP title. He is also predicted to start for the Western Conference All-Star Team, which plays soon. Look out for Malone and the Jazz, and expect them to finish top in the league, and capture the title. John Stockton and Karl Malone have played together for 4 years, but they have yet to win a title. This year looks to be different.
