Toronto Raptors Hire Rodriguez as New General Manager[/b]
The Toronto Raptors are heading into a new direction, they have fired their current General Manager on Saturday and as soon as just hours after they announced the hiring of Ed Rodriguez as the new General Manager and President of Operations. With the possible restructuration, the Raptors are expected to fire current Head Coach Lenny Wilkins and are expected to Pat Riley. Rodriguez looked quite excited as he was introduced today, "I understand that the fans want to win now and they need to know that we will get to that kind of status once we establish how are we going to run this team. I don't plan to make any major changes with the roster right now, We will be looking towards scouting players for the Draft in the offseason." said Rodriguez to Canadien reporters. The Raptors are 19-50 this season which is the worst record in the league, They are most likely to obtain a very high lotto pick but who exactly will they select if say the team gets the 1st pick overall. Many experts say they are looking towards the Australian Center Andrew Bogut but Rodriguez has denied such rumor. "Right now we are looking at possibilities, The Draft is months away and right now we don't know for sure." added Rodriguez.
With Dwayne Wade and Devin Harris in the backcourt, the Raptors will most likely look to draft the best big man available. The team will also have about 20+ million dollars available in cap space which is good enough to try to attract big name free agents to Toronto. It should be an interesting offseason with alot of options for the ballclub to assess.
As we are at the trading deadline, There are many rumors circulating that G Derek Anderson could be on the move very shortly to a contending team. It's the only multi-year contract on the roster that they will have no use for the future and the obvious would be to acquire an expiring contract. Rodriguez has come to Toronto with a plan and he will follow it, Many said that Dwayne Wade could be a bust but he will get a new chance under the new regime in Canada. "I will get him help, I still believe that Wade will be the great player everyone is waiting for him to be" added Rodriguez to the media.
