Many within the organization were pleasantly surprised when Tyler Hansborough was still available with the 19th pick in the draft. They had been impressed watching him this past season playing for the Tarheels and his college coach Roy Williams. Tyler was the captain of the team this past season, and he brings in the attitude winning is what is only acceptable. That winning attitude is something that he has already brought into the locker room even as a rookie to the Warrior squad.
This years team is mixed with some veterans and some rookies and young players, some have the fans thinking this could be the beginning of the new era in Warrior nation. This year is also loaded with the possibility that there might be a new head coach if things don't improve from the previous year. They are willing to give the current coach the opportunity to have a chance to keep his job realizing they are in the rebuilding stages with this team.
Over the years many great players have worn the Warriors uniform from Antwain Jamison, to Ben Wallace, Jerry Stackhouse, Chauncey Billups, to many many more. Now the likes of Ronnie Brewer, Tyler Hansborough, and Zydrunas Ilgauskas are the key players on this new era. Some might go as far as to say that this team what it lacks in experience besides Zydrunas Ilgauskas, they make up for in heart and effort. It will be very interesting to see just how much improvement is made from the previous season where they won 30 plus games even though they struggled with depth always being an issue.
Additions to this year’s team via free agency included Andres Nocioni, Donyell Marshall, Mike Dunleavy, and Damon Stoudamire, all of which have played on teams that have playoff experience on their resume. Many season ticket holders were anxious to see where this will take the team they frequent each and every season.
This year’s captains have been announced and there are 3. Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Jamal Tinsley, and Ronnie Brewer. These three plan on playing a major role in the success of this year’s squad. The level of intrigue and excitement is high and hopefully the results on the court will make their way to reaching those same expectations.
