"No Pre-Planned Post-Season Awards for the Spurs"[/b]
Sir Columnist McDonald
The Spurs are at it again. After signing free agents Rico Hall, Rafer Alston, Lorenzo Brandon, and Kurt Ale. So far, Brandon has been the only one really pushing himself to pull the franchise out of the sewers. Though, Yotam Halperin was cut from the team to be able to allow the new additions, he didn't exactly leave upset.
"Most people think," Halperin stated about the trade, "that I would be upset to be cut from [the Spurs]. In all actuality, I'm glad to be away from the team. I didn't really get along with the other players on the team, and I don't want to be on a team that is destined to fail." The statement seems true, seeing as how the Spurs appear to be in quite a predicament.
Their season record currently stands at a very lopsided twenty-eight wins to forty-seven losses. Currently, this record is too low to enter the play-offs, and too high to receive a decent lottery pick in the upcoming draft. As seen, either way, the Spurs are going to end this season quite depressingly. With a potential no-show in the play-offs, and an obvious lottery pick in the draft, they won't be able have much to show for by the end of the season, except for, maybe, Yao Ming's existence in the "top free-throw attempts" category.
The best thing that the Spurs can do to improve the franchise is either tank, and hope to get a better pick, which is most likely illegal, or stay strong, and try to get as many of the top players playing as possible. With high scorers such as Ming, Brandon, and Rodriguez, the team should be able to improve as soon as the new players get settled in. Although, they could be playing even better if Grant Hill would stop trying to commit suicide. Though, who blames him, when you have to play for THAT team.
"I really love playing for this club," Hill said in a recent interview. "I've been trying to pass off to Yao as much as possible, whenever he's open, and the 'mates are just great to hang out with." Any guesses on how much the general manager paid him to say that? Maybe that's why he's been seen shopping a lot lately. It's funny how, with a broken finger, he can't pass a ball to his teammates, but he can pass that credit card right through the cash register.
Nonetheless, good luck to those poor, unfortunate Spurs. Maybe they'll succeed. Someday.
