Please note that I didn't take into account a teams FA's in this mock. Also note, that their are only 13 lottery picks, but I felt the need to include myself.
They 2008 Draft is certainly one of the most original in league history. There are a record amount of big men that could go lotto, leaving some guards to fall to non-lottery teams. The draft will kick off with the most obvious pick...
1. Cleveland Cavaliers - OJ Mayo B- B- B- B- C A
The most obvious pick in the draft. Mayo and Dwight together, the 1 picks from the past 2 seasons, will be a force in the league for years to come. This team is going to be scary and will make an immediate impact next season. Rumors are, they are looking to play him at SG.
This pick marks the 7th time in 8 years that an Eastern Conference team has gotten the 1st pick.
2. Houston Rockets - Andrew Bynum B- D+ C- B B- A
The Rockets aren't a very good team and need young players with potential, so they take Andrew Bynum. Bynum is only 20 and is the 2nd most talented player in the draft. Despite his youth, look for Bynum to contribute immediately.
3. Atlanta Hawks - Lamarcus Aldridge
The Hawks got this pick for a reason. They trade one young big and get another. Any time the commisioner trades to get in position to draft you, you have to be some kind of special talent. Aldridge is the best low post scorer in this draft, and look for him to improve.
4. Memphis Grizzlies - Monta Ellis
A team without a PG lands the #1 pick in the "OJ Mayo" draft and trades it? Monta Ellis part of the reason the Grizzlies decide to make that move. Monta has definite star potential and teams up with Brandon Roy to make a dangerous young frontcourt.
5. Indiana Pacers - Andris Biedrins
I'm in a rush to go back to join my family for Easter dinner, so now you just get the short and the sweet. The Pacers lack true depth up front, so they take, in my opinion, the big with the best potential left.
6. Houston Rockets - Julian Wright
They already got Bynum, so they could look to fill out their lineup with the uber versitile SF. The Rockets would hope that Wright lives up to the comparisons and becomes the Boris Diaw of this team. Wright, though, is going to be a better rebounder.
7. Miami Heat - Glen Davis
The inexplicably talented PF finds his way into Miami. He's rated pretty generously and can do some damage on the court. The Heat need some help up front, and Davis may be the one that can provide it.
8. Memphis Grizzlies - Andrea Bargnani
Although they have a nice tandem of young big men, the Grizzlies can take a chance on the best shooter in the draft at 8. Maybe they lose their minds and play him at SF? Who knows, but Drea will be a nice addition to any team and could be a trade asset.
9. Chicago Bulls - Wilson Chandler
This team is really deprived for swingmen, so they take a chance on the under-the-radar SF. Chandler has a similar skill set to Julian Wright, but is a better finisher around the rim. Some scouts think he could be a Abdur Rahim type tweener. Another possible pick here is Martell Webster, who could provide some shooting.
10. New Jersey Nets - Martell Webster
The Nets fill out their frontcourt with the sharpshooting Martell Webster. They could go big here, but with young'ns like Darko and raising star Ike Diogu, they can afford to fill out their backcourt.
11. New York Knicks - Sean Singletary
The Knicks are the reigning champs and are in a good position to add another batch of talented players. Kaman could get his job replaced here, but Sean Singletary is not to be slept on. Jason Kidd can't play forever, so they can take Singletary and let him develop until his is ready to contribute.
12. New Orleans Hornets - Tyrus Thomas
The Hornets really need some shot blocking, and they get it in super athletic Tyrus Thomas. This would give them a very athletic lineup.
13. Golden State Warriors - Taj Gibson
They really need some frontcourt help, Big Z can't play forever. They go for the polished Taj Gibson, who can step in and contribute now. If Chandler falls, he's going here.
14. Los Angeles Clippers - Yi Jianlian
The Clippers having traded Zach Randolph look to go big with the 14th pick. Yi is a very athletic, offensively aware PF. Yi also fits in with the teams up tempo type of game.
