Salt Lake Tribune:
In a string of surprising moves, Jazz gm bjscho23 has pulled off another trade. This time, star shooting guard Kobe Bryant and recently acquired Al Harrington were traded to the Milwaukee Bucks for Chris Webber, Al Thornton and the Bucks 1st choice in the 2010 draft. This now gives the Jazz 8 1st round draft choices in the next 3 drafts. For a team that claims not to be rebuilding they sure have the looks of it.
Bjscho23: "We've got some very good veterans on this team. We add a power forward like Chris Webber, a solid center like Dampier and we are going to win a lot of games. What hurts us is that we don't have our pick for the upcoming season so that keeps us from really starting over. But we will make the playoffs with this roster and be very competitive. We are going to start Brooks at the point and see how the kid does. He was criticized after the draft by people saying he went too high, but he had a great preseason and I look for big things from the little guy. What it boils down to is this; how many teams can rebuild while still winning? We are going to accomplish this. We may go through some growing pains for a couple years after this, but we'll have money to spend on free agents and a lot of good young pieces to build around. I expect us to be competing again for years to come and this allows us to do that."
Webber was happy when he found out he would be heading back to Utah. "I enjoyed my time there and I look forward to coming back. My bags will stay packed as all the other guys are leaving, but with my contract I realize that I may be here a while. I've always loved Stack as a player and a guy and it will be fun to play with him. Maybe we'll surprise some people in the West. You never know. I still have a lot more in the tank and I know that I'm still playing for that last contract. "
With the season starting soon, the Jazz look like a team that are wondering if every day is their last day in the uniform.
