Is that the best title to an article or what?
anyway,
Orlando Sentinel:
Magic Make Free Agents Disappear
In the offseason, the Magic lost two superstars in Allen Iverson and Peja Stojakovic. This left the Magic stunned and instantly rebuilding. Many teams, including the Jazz, led by genius gm bjscho23 tried to acquire the Magic first round selection in the coming draft. However, the events from Sunday evening have changed everything when the Magic announced the signing of Steve Nash, Richard "Rip" Hamilton, Marko Jaric, Curtis Borchardt, Courtney Lee, Trevor Ariza and Danny Fortson. What is more amazing about this is the fact that none of these players signed in the first 2 days of free agency. The 7 players signed in one day is a record for the ABCA and put the Magic in contention for a playoff spot in the eastern conference.
The key players signed were Steve Nash and Richard Hamilton and they reportedly led to the signing of the other players. An unnamed source reported that "Nash promised Ariza and Jaric that he'd pay for their housing for the years they played together." Nash, who has career averages of 20 points and 10 assists, was unsure about returning to the Magic. "I didn't know what to do. I didn't get a lot of offers, but I liked what I got. I know that we needed help. When I saw that RIP was about to sign I got on the phone and really pushed some guys over the edge." Hamilton, who has career averages of 18 points and 5 boards did most of his damage as a member of the Miami Heat where he led them to a conference final. Two seasons ago he scored nearly 28 a game and will be expected to carry the load this year also. "I get to play with Nash and I should get some easy buckets. We need to get a big time center and we can compete in the East. I like what we are doing."
As the Magic look to remain competitive they hope for a healthy season and a run at the playoffs. Borchardt will give them a solid presence underneath but will undoubtedly be exploited. But the team has some solid depth at power forward with Simeon and Fortson and they will cause problems for most teams. The forgotten player in the mix is Jason Terry who is on the block right now. Terry will be moved probably for a center and the Magic may have to throw a pick into the mix to make the trade work for them.
